FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions
Looking for answers?
Where do your videos come from?
We search many Internet sites to bring you the
best videos we can find for each destination. We
then use the embed feature made available by
those sites to assemble what we feel are the most
compelling short videos available. Some of the
sites we use are:
Do you use any other sources?
We are currently considering soliciting tourist
bureaus and independent distributors for
interesting, entertaining, informative or inspiring
videos. Generally, though, we prefer content that
is available for embedding.
Do you allow viewers to upload their own videos?
No, we are not a video sharing site. There are a
large number of sites which allow travelers to
upload videos for sharing and general distribution.
Please see our page on Alternative Resources for
more information about these sites.
What are "REAL PEOPLE" videos?
These are videos that are posted on public
websites by individuals and we think might be of
interest to our viewers. We identify them as REAL
PEOPLE videos so that you will be aware that they
are generally not as well produced as professional
videos. The sound quality is poor or missing, the
photography may be shaky, not well-framed or
out of focus, they may jump around in topic, they
may have a large number of still shots (instead of
video) or there may be a combination of these
issues. Sometimes, though, these very personal
videos offer something the professionals never think
to cover.
Do you do travel booking?
Our mission is to provide inspiration. We prefer to
focus on that goal and encourage our viewers to
make travel arrangements with companies
dedicated to that purpose. We hope that you
might find some of our advertisers useful or
recommend that you consult an experienced
travel agent or tour operator. We have also
provided links to national and state tourist boards
to allow you to research your next steps.
If you are looking for a travel specialist for any
area, please try this website:
Why are some of your videos sponsored?
Sometimes the best videos are provided by
companies that have the budgets to pay for high
quality content, production and delivery. While
we do not endorse any specific vendors, we like to
allow the viewer to see all the wonders of travel
regardless of who created the video.
Can I recommend a good video?
We encourage our viewers to submit videos for our
attention. In fact, it's how we make the site better
and better. Please submit a recommended video
link through the Submissions page.
What criteria do you use to choose your videos?
We look for videos that have great pictures and
good sound. In addition, those that tell a
compelling story or remain on point are also
favored. Videos are screened for visual interest,
sound quality, originality, interest, pacing and
production quality. We try to choose videos that
are not too long. We also try to provide as wide a
range of content as possible, so sometimes the
quality can vary since there may not be a great
video available (yet!) for everything of interest at a
destination. Finally, because this is video, we
prefer movement over "slide-show" type videos,
which are often still pictures assembled to music or
commentary. There is detailed information on the
Submissions page about video criteria.
What if the embed is not working?
Please let us know if you find a video that is not
working. The public availability of videos
continually changes and we try to make sure our
website remains current, but feedback helps us a
lot.
Why do you have advertising on your site?
It helps offset the costs and provides a revenue
stream so that we can find you the best videos
around. We do not have alternative sources of
income (e.g., selling travel from the site, requiring
registration fees, etc.). This site is intended as an
"editorial" site -- we edit for specific content so that
you don't have to. Think of it as any other edited
content such as a newspaper or magazine.
What if I want to book travel after seeing the
videos?
We often receive feedback that people wish they
could go to the next step of making plans after
they've been inspired. We currently are starting to
provide links to some authorized tourist bureau
sites. Additionally, some advertisers may offer
travel planning services to the destinations you are
considering.
