We are always on the lookout for great
videos, so would love to consider your
recommendations. Here's what we look
for:
A - Great moving pictures (this is video!)
- evocative of the destination
- of general interest (usually that
means no family and friends saying
"hi", except for the "REAL PEOPLE"
vidoes)
- steady cam - lots of fast moving
around doesn't work for this site -
sorry if that's your favorite
- respectful of the destination and
the people of the country
B - Great sound quality
- no loud ambient noise (e.g.
helicopter engines, waterfalls, etc.)
- even sound throughout
- no extraneous or sudden noises
C - Good music choice
- appropriate to the pictures
- matches the mood of what is being
depicted
- properly attributed
D - Narration
- informative and descriptive
- minimal disruptive conversation
- no unnecessary commentary
- definitely no swearing, no foul
language and no derogatory
remarks about people or cultures
E - Focused - covers one topic or area well
F - Length - best length is 1 1/2 to 4
minutes. We do choose longer videos if
they are the only ones available, but
prefer a number of short videos on related
topics to one long one that has many
parts. Some viewers only want to see one
part of the content.
G - Pacing - balance is the key, some
parts slow, some parts fast with interesting
segues is best
H - Production Quality
- Good editing
- Great start - think what will grab the
viewer, not what interested you out
on the trail
- Good transitions
- Clear ending that makes sense
So, do we always meet all these criteria?
No, not really. We're still building our ideal
library. Since we are trying to provide as
wide a range of content as possible,
sometimes the quality can vary. There
may not be a great video available (yet!)
for everything of interest at a destination.
With that in mind - if you run across a
great video, please send us the link using
the form on this page.
And thanks for watching out for us!
